Foundation
The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is a not-for-profit corporation that promotes world understanding through international humanitarian service programs and educational and cultural exchanges. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and others who share its vision of a better world. Since 1947, the Foundation has awarded more than US$1.6 billion in humanitarian and educational grants, which are initiated and administered by local Rotary clubs and districts.
The role of the Club’s Foundation Committee is to organise activities to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfilment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary’s mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs. In particular, the Club’s Foundation Committee’s main objective (during this Rotary year) is to identify opportunities for the Club, through the other Committees, to be involved in service projects which will realize Foundation Grants to assist in developing, funding and implementing these projects.
Examples of these programs include:
- Local Literacy project/s in conjunction with the Vocational Committee;
- Literacy and/or water projects, in conjunction with Community and International Committees and in partnership with District/other Rotary Clubs.
Other Foundation activities the Committee will focus on includes:
- Group Study Exchange (GSE) — Inward Group hosting
- Polio Plus Eradication
- Donation Commitment to Rotary Foundation; eg Ambassadorial & Peace Scholars
In addition, an education program for club members in respect to the functioning of the Foundation Annual Giving programmes and subsequent distributions will be implemented throughout the coming 12 months
A comprehensive outline of all of The Rotary Foundation’s programs is detailed at our District 9810’s web-site www.9810.rotary.org.au
