OCTOBER 2013 – NEW MEMBERS: October has been a busy month with three new members inducted.On Tuesday 15th October, the Club was visited by District Governor Merv Ericson and his wife Kay. Merv had a very busy night assisting with  inductions – Delwyn Ellis and Cheryl Mackay, as well as presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow [PHF] sapphire to Ann Wheeler.
The following fortnight we saw the induction of David Yates, formerly a Rotarian in the Solomon Islands.
The Club extends a big welcome to all three and their partners Graeme Ellis, Colin Mackay and Carol Yates.
NATIONAL SCIENCE FORUM – SUCCESSFUL NOMINATION: Our nominee, Ryan Parker from Mt Evelyn Christian College, has been accepted to participate in the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra in January 2014.
We congratulate Ryan and look forward to having him back to the Club in 2014 to report on his time at the Science Forum.
NOVEMBER 2103 – SUCCESSFUL FELLOWSHIP EVENING – RCL CUP NIGHT
A very successful and enjoyable night was held last Tuesday night for the running of the second RCL Cup as part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival festivities at the spectacular venue of Evelyn Ridge.
The Club’s hardworking Fellowship Committee catered for 35, which included well dressed members, partners, Friends of Rotary and guests.
Mary George [Evelyn Ridge Manager] judged the Fashions on the Field. Hans Witlox for the second year in a row was judged the Mens’ Best Dressed, whilst new member Delwyn Ellis took out the Best Dressed Lady.
Peter Loosley and Pat Westover as jockey and strapper took out the RCL Cup in a fast finishing race, and were presented their winning cup by Race MC Ian Darvell.
DECEMBER 2013 – MOUNT EVELYN COMMUNITY WISHING TREE – DISTRIBUTION PROJECT
The Club will be participating with the Mt. Evelyn Chamber of Commerce and the Mt. Evelyn & Districts Community Bank Branch Bendigo Bank in the Community Wishing Tree Project.
The Wishing Tree Project is accepting generous donations of packaged food and gifts at the local drop off points of the Mt. Evelyn Post Office, The Mt Evelyn Community Bank and Jobo Design on York Road.
Donations can be left until Monday 23rd December 2013 and all proceeds will be delivered by our Club.

DECEMBER 2013 – NEW MEMBER The Club welcomes new member Ron Haines and his wife Judy.
Approximately 80 made up of Club Members and Friends of RCL plus their families attended the Club’s Christmas Picnic held in the rustic David Wilkinson Pavilion in the Lilydale Showgrounds. The day was a huge success with Rotarian Tim Hewitt dressing up as Father Christmas and arriving on the Lilydale Fire Brigade tanker truck to hand-out presents to all the young children and grand-children attending.The day was fully catered for by the hard-working Fellowship Committee.
Club representation on the local ANZAC Centenary Committee, by Margi Sank and Thomas Dahmen, were instrumental in preparing the submission for our local Casey electorate to receive the first of many approved Federal Government grants to celebrate the centenary of ANZAC.

“The grant of $5,200.00 has been approved to help provide interpretative signage and a plaque at the site of a large Militia Camp at Lilydale [current Lillydale Lake] and the site of a mock battle at Coldstream. The unveiling ceremonies surrounding these will also mark the start of the important centenary commemorations and raise the awareness of the extraordinary episode in our local history”.

Another busy month, with advice coming through that East Timor Roofing took delivery of new Toyota workhorse. Numerous Rotary Clubs including Lilydale contributed to the purchase costs.
BULLY STOPPING PROGRAM –
A joint initiative with a number of local primary and secondary schools to promote “Peace through Art”. The exhibition was launched at the Mt Evelyn Station House by Maria McCarthy the Deputy Mayor of the Shire of Yarra Ranges, along with school captains from the various participating schools. The feedback is that the students are now driving this program within these schools, rather than the staff.
President Helen inducted Bill and Madalyn Parlet into our Club. A very big welcome to both.
JUNE 2014 – END OF PRESIDENT HELEN’S YEAR
What a busy last quarter. A jointly co-ordinated Mens Health Night run by Rotary Clubs of Montrose & District, Chirnside Park and Lilydale was a very successful with in excess of 120 attendees.
The Club assisted in contributing to the purchase of a new 4 wheel drive vehicle for Rotary East Timor Liaison Officer Daryl Mills, to replace his dilapidated Troopie The vehicle has now arrived and full particulars can be read in July edition of Rotary Downunder – http://digitaledition.rotarydownunder.com.au/?iid=96268&startpage=26
CLUB AWARDS – Helen received on behalf of the Club a District Citation Award for outstanding results achieved throughout the year.
Earlier in the last quarter the Club also received a Certificate from Australian Rotary Health, recognising the Club’s contribution to the Australian Rotary Health Fund. This was presented by our own PDG Patrick Hartley who has been an active member of the Australian Rotary Health board for a number of years.
In June, Paul Harris Fellowes [PHF] were awarded to members – Jenny Selway, Margi Sank and PHF sapphire to Geoff Welsh. The latter two were presented at Changeover Lunch.
INDUCTIONS Additionally at Changeover we inducted and welcomed four members from Chirnside Park following their handing back their Rotary Charter at the 30th June 2014. We welcome Lynn Whelan, Bryan McCarthy, Jenny Hill and Ann McCarthy as well as partners Evan Whelan and Maria McCarthy.
