About Rotarians Against Malaria - Australia
Rotarians Against Malaria is one of the six main projects of Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCs), seeking to eliminate malaria from our neighbouring regions of PNG, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste. Our programs include Adopt A Village, Chasing Malaria, Healthy Villages, and Malaria Awareness Day (30th April). We distribute bednets, rapid diagnosis test kits, and provide education and tools to keep villages free of mosquito breeding areas. Since 2009 RAM PNG has delivered 8.27 million nets including 650,000 since the start of 2016. Just over 100,000 nets have also been distributed to vulnerable groups in 2016 of which 80% have been to new mothers
To find out more information about malaria elimination and how you can support us through donations or volunteering go to: https://ram.rawcs.com.au.

The Rotary Club of Lilydale hosts an annual Primary Schools Speech Competition. This event sponsored by the Club, is usually held at one of the participating schools premises. The idea is to encourage primary school children in Grades 5 and 6 to prepare and deliver a short speech from a selection of five topics, thus providing them with the experience of speech preparation and public speaking in a safe forum. The annual event is attended by Toastmasters Australia who provide guidelines, assessments and judges for the event. Participating students are short listed from competitions run in their schools and have to give a three minute speech on the night. Every child receives feedback and a certificate of participation. The top three students as assessed by the independent judges are provided with a gift voucher. The event is attended by Rotarians, school teachers and family and friends of the participants, and is increasing in popularity each year it is run. Visitors are treated to an entertaining evening of wonderful speeches with light refreshments at the conclusion of the night. Please contact Annie Wheeler for more information / to volunteer |

Tonight's guest speaker is Anton Hockey, Program Coordinator (Vic, Tas & SA) Road Safety Education Ltd, to present on Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA). https://rse.org.au/about-ryda/ RYDA is more than a program, it’s partnership which supports teachers on the journey as they provide their students with the tools and understanding they need to see themselves as active, responsible road citizens. Taking, largely, a student inquiry learning approach, RYDA becomes part of the school culture from the first to last day of a young person’s high school life. Beyond that, RYDA provides students with the tools, habits and motivation to take action and stay safe on our roads as both drivers and passengers throughout their lives. Long term change will only be realised where educational materials support each-other and key messages are repeated over time. RYDA, a program professionally developed by leading learning organisation, Road Safety Education Limited (RSE), is designed to complement the high school curriculum. RYDA features a highly engaging and memorable one-day workshop which front-loads students’ understanding of road safety. The workshop sessions are designed to be held in small classroom sized groups (approximately 25 students) and are led by a team of trained facilitators including Police, driving instructors and other community sector specialists. RYDA is delivered to over 660 high schools throughout Australia and New Zealand, with an average of 40,000 students participating in the RYDA Program every year. York on Lilydale function room, 136 York Rd Mt Evelyn. RSVP Judtih 0438 389 695 $10 room surcharge, meals and drinks available through the bistro Join us for dinner at 6.30pm or just come along for the meeting from 7.00pm - 8.00pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month (when appearing in Calendar) where you will meet a welcoming group of dedicated people who share a passion for both community service and friendship. |
