Club President Bill Parlet and member/wife Madalyn Parlet  were attendees and presenters at the Audiology Workshop held in East Timor on the 29th & 30th of November 2017.

This is a project that both Madalyn and Bill have been enthusiastically working on over the past couple of years.  Club members were given an overview of this Project at a recent Club Dinner meeting, just prior to their departure last month to East Timor.

The Rotary Club of Lilydale manages a RAWCS registered project to promote Hearing Health in Timor Leste.

In November 2017 Bill and Madalyn Parlet, travelled to Dili, where they delivered a two day seminar at the National University of Timor Leste to 15 students, who are currently studying nursing and midwifery – separate courses.

SEMINAR PURPOSE:

Stage Two of the project aimed to teach these students  about ear disease:

  • it’s impact,

  • prevention,

  • assessment, and

  • treatment

OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS TO LOCAL COMMUNITIES:

Before the 15 participating students graduate in May 2018, they will undertake community-based research and health promotion to inform local parents about how to maintain the Hearing Health of their infants and young children.

Healthy physical development, free of ear infections, will assist children’s learning in the home and at school.

This project was supported by the Melbourne audiology business, Blamey Saunders hears and by East Timor Roofing.
